You can't write A Tribute to MOMS without reflecting on your own childhood, adulthood and motherhood (whether you are one or about to be one). In my reflection of all three types of "hoods" I know one thing is for certain, I was loved and continue to be loved, and to my children, I love you beyond measure! Every aspect of the "hood" has shaped me into who I am! The challenges, the glorious failures, and most importantly the graceful, beautiful successes. I embrace them all, I own them all, I celebrate them all.
To my incredible mother....thank you! The imprint you have left on my life cannot be measured or repaid. You have been steadfast. You have been firm. You have been loving. You never stopped believing in or supporting me (whether you agreed or not). YOU have taught me unconditional love. You have taught me grace and understanding, to embrace the hiccups and to never loose site of the goal.....leaving a legacy for your children and grandchildren. You are wise, you are beautiful (from the inside out). I am in awe of you and I am SO thankful for you EVERYDAY!
To my own children. I am sorry and you are welcome :) I never promised to be prefect but I promise to never stop trying. I promise to be there for you everyday, through both your successes and challenges and to love you just the same (if not more) as you navigate through YOUR "hoods". I am here, I am present and I love you more than I can possibly express. Reach for the highest star (it's well within your grasp), color outside of the lines, never stop believing, love with all your heart, embrace your challenges (they are lessons in disguise), never stop growing, love yourself unconditionally and know that I am and will always be your biggest fan! You ARE PERFECT in my eyes, you always will be, its a right of passage when your in the "hood".
To these beautiful mothers here....thank you! Thank you for opening up to me for a brief instant, for letting me capture YOUR celebration of the "hood." The images speak for themselves. There simply are no words to express. I understand, I celebrate YOU! Happy Mother's Day to each and every one of you!
Much love and respect,
